Châteauguay—Lacolle Riding Renamed to Les Jardins-de-Napierville

Full Title: An Act to change the name of the electoral district of Châteauguay—Lacolle

Summary#

This bill changes the official name of the federal electoral district now called Châteauguay—Lacolle to “Châteauguay—Les Jardins-de-Napierville.” It amends the name in the 2013 representation order made under the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act (Bill s.1). It takes effect six months after royal assent unless the Chief Electoral Officer says preparations are complete earlier, in which case it takes effect on the publication date of that notice (Bill s.2).

  • Changes only the district’s name in the representation order; no other amendments appear in the bill (Bill s.1).
  • Does not change district boundaries, the number of Members of Parliament, or voting rules; only the name is replaced (Bill s.1).
  • The effective date is the earlier of a readiness notice by the Chief Electoral Officer or six months after royal assent (Bill s.2).
  • After it is in force, official federal references to the district will use the new name (Bill s.1).

  • Timing: The change applies on the publication date of a readiness notice by the Chief Electoral Officer or, if no notice is published before then, six months after royal assent (Bill s.2).
